FACT INSPECTION & ACCREDITATION WORKSHOPS

Training workshops are designed to inform and update current and prospective inspectors on inspection requirements and explain the FACT accreditation requirements to cellular therapy program and cord blood bank personnel. FACT representatives are in attendance at these workshops to answer questions, clarify the intent of the checklist questions, and to assist with organizing and preparing for on-site inspections. Participants are encouraged to stimulate discussion about effective and ineffective inspection practices and techniques. The contents of the workshops evolve over time based upon current issues, needs, and outcomes.

FACT workshops are offered in conjunction with the annual meetings of the American Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation (ASBMT), the International Society for Cellular Therapy (ISCT), the American Society for Apheresis (ASFA), and the European Group for Blood and Marrow Transplantation (EBMT), and the International Umbilical Cord Blood Symposium.

Cellular therapy workshops now have two tracks: a general track and a focused track. The general track provides insight into the inspection and accreditation process of an entire cellular therapy program and is geared toward new applicants, trainee inspectors, and overall cellular therapy administrators. The focused track presents detailed information pertinent to participants’ daily activities and is targeted to renewal applicants, experienced inspectors, and personnel. The focused tracks are based upon the scientific focus of the applicable annual meeting.

2009/2010 Inspection & Accreditation Workshops

The agendas for the 2009/2010 workshops were formatted to enhance knowledge and understanding through practical application and interactive activities.  

During the Cellular Therapy workshops, special emphasis was placed on changes to the 4th edition Standards and maintaining accreditation.  The Cord Blood workshops consisted of case studies throughout the sessions. Both the accreditation process and techniques for preparing for and conducting inspections were discussed.
